The Perfect Polish
Everyone wants to have long, beautiful nails, and the perfect finish is a beautifully applied coating of colored enamel. Whether your natural nails are short or long, the perfect polish is the finishing compliment to your manicure.
To begin with, always be sure your polish is fresh. Enamel that has been allowed to thicken will not apply evenly or thinly and will tend to bubble, streak and not 'cure' or adhere properly. Polish will thicken because it is 'volatile'. This simply means that the solvents in the enamel that keep it in a fluid state will quickly evaporate when exposed to air. The longer the bottle remains open during application, or if it is exposed to a heat source, the solvents will quickly evaporate and the enamel will become thick, gooey, stringy and make a perfect application impossible. Store your enamels/polishes in a cool, dark place and away from sources of heat.
Begin your application by turning the bottle upside down and 'rolling' each bottle of enamel between the palms of your hands. Never 'shake' the bottle as this method will form bubbles of air in the enamel which will transmit to the finished surface after application.
The Perfect Polish is applied by first stroking down the center of the nail plate from cuticle to free edge, then stroking each side in turn. Three to four strokes on each nail is sufficient to evenly distribute the coating. Additional stroking will only lift and move the enamel leaving behind streaks and/or bare spots on the nail surface. Leave a tiny margin all around the cuticle and sides of each nail to ensure that the polish does not touch your skin and that it adheres properly to the nail plate. Remember, oil is a separating medium and your skin contains oils and moisture.
Apply the colored enamel in the same manner, allowing enough time for each coating to dry between layers. Always apply each layer very thin. If the pigments in the enamel are not 'even' after the second coating of color, allow an extra minute, then apply a third coat. The pigments in some red or metallic enamels tend to separate during application and may require a third coating for even color distribution. Allow from one to three minutes after this third coating before applying your top coat or sealer. Nail enamel will dry from the first coat up to the last, and the solvents in the enamel must evaporate before the coatings are hardened. Pausing as long as you can between coatings will produce a smoother, more brilliant surface. Applying coatings that are too thick, too close together, or with enamel that has thickened with time will smudge, dent or may peel from the nail plate entirely. Applying the coatings too quickly is a major reason for the 'orange peel' texture. This is especially pronounced in times of high temperatures and humidity,
Waiting for polish to dry can be tiresome, but the slower it dries the better! Slower evaporating solvents produce brighter colors. Forcing the polish to quickly dry by using heat or chemical dryers will actually result in excessive shrinkage and cracking. Formulations that use rapidly evaporating solvents tend to bubble and pit more or produce uneven surfaces. Blowing on the polish will lower adhesion and gloss.
CONTINUE
Remove all traces of old enamel by moistening a cotton or gauze pad with the remover of your choice. Press the pad onto the nail plate, hold for a few seconds, then swipe toward the free edge. Change the pad often as the remover cannot perform well if it is saturated with old enamel. Dark pigmented enamels are the hardest to remove, and the old polish may get on your skin or underneath the free edge. If this happens, wrap a small piece of cotton on the end of the orangewood stick, saturate it with remover and clean the enamel from the cuticle line and under the free edge.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Use a 240-grit file to remove length or to perfect the free edge by filing from the outside corner to the center of the nail plate. Never saw back and forth across the free edge as it can disrupt the nail plate layers and lead to splitting and peeling. The ideal shape of the free edge should mirror the shape of the cuticle, i.e.: an oval cuticle = an oval free edge.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
To seal the free edge, use the 3-way buffer: black to refine, white to semi-shine and gray to finish. This will seal the layers of the free edge to further prevent splitting or peeling.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Apply cuticle remover, oil or lotion all around the cuticle area if you so desire, then immerse the nails in the soaking dish for no more than 3 minutes. If you are performing this procedure on yourself, soak one hand at a time and proceed to the next step. Perform the procedure on the other hand. Soaking for more than 3 minutes will fully saturate the nail plate, causing it to swell. Once the plate returns to its normal shape, any polish that is applied will crack and chip.
If your nails are already dry and brittle, perform a hot oil manicure instead.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Remove the fingers from the soaking dish, and holding the orangewood stick or metal cuticle pusher much as you would a pencil, proceed to 'push' the invisible cuticle skin from the nail plate surface back toward the 'live' tissue. Do not use downward force when performing this procedure as the nail matrix could become damaged from the aggressive force. Keep in mind that all you want to do is remove any translucent skin from the nail plate -- you do not want to break the seal between the proximal nail fold and the nail plate. Perform this procedure on all 5 fingers, then do the same on the other hand. The 'skin' you see at the cuticle line in Fig. 2 has been pushed back from the nail plate. This 'true cuticle' can be gently removed by scraping the plate with the cuticle pusher or the curette.

TUMMY EXERCISE
The problem with tummy muscles is that we do not generally exercise this muscle in daily life. It is not greatly challenged from climbing stairs, bending, stretching or walking. We, therefore, have to make a special effort to encourage it to come back into line. The movements have to be small and controlled and depend on the effort put in by the exerciser to get really good results. Secondly during pregnancy, as the baby grows inside the muscle (transverse) is pushed forward. A huge amount of stretching is going on and tends to leave the muscle loose and hanging forward after the birth. It is essentially the lack of strength left in this muscle which allows the tummy to sit in that rather round forward position Mothers would recognise from after birth. In all cases it is the lack of exercise for this muscle which causes it to become loose and give the 'pot bellied' appearance.
Myth No. 1: By doing some midsection exercises one can reduce 'love handles'. Fact: You cannot reduce fat from a certain targeted area of your body just by using exercise alone. And the abdominal area is no exception. So if you want to get a flat stomach and to reveal your abs, losing the fat covering them is the way to go. And the only way to do this is to lose fat proportionately from your entire body by burning more calories than you consume
CHAPTER 2
1.Before we begin, make sure you are properly prepared. Disinfect all hard surfaces (True Blue), then wash your hands with soap and water and sanitize them with an instant hand sanitizer (Cool Blue).
2.Make certain your rolling cart is fully stocked with a disinfection tray, Spa Pedicure products, other pedicuring products, implements, tools, towels and polishing products.
3.A successful set-up is well organized and embellished with your own special touch and creativity; flowers, music, candles and relaxing low light. (Although not so low you can't see what you are doing!)
4.All pedicure clients should have filled out the consultation form (client profile) covering medical history and other important information. Remember, you must proceed with caution if a client is diabetic, calling the client's physician for clearance if you have any doubts, and never perform a pedicure in an extreme situation, such as open sores or infections of the foot or leg.
5.Plan on the service taking around an hour to complete. This includes a six to seven minute massage per leg. When you do the service in the salon, complete each step on all five toes before going on to the next step.
1Fill the foot bath with warm water -- this means under 100° F, or a comfortable Jacuzzi temperature. In a vibrating unit, use one scoop of Foaming Sea Soak™, then add the water to agitate as it fills to create a beautiful light foam in the bath.
Let your client get settled in the chair with shoes, socks or nylons removed.
Submerge both the client's feet in the warm water, adding more water if necessary to adjust the temperature to the client's comfort.
4.Add one level scoop of Sea Rocks™ to the water, agitating with your hand to dissolve and blend.. Sea Rocks™ is a softening, hydrating, aroma therapeutic foot bath treatment that will add a gentle foam to the water and release the aromatic vapors of Tee Tree and Eucalyptus Oil into the room.
5.Soak the clients feet for 5 minutes in the bath to take full advantage of the softening effects of Rice Bran and Vitamin E Oils. As they soak, remove your instruments from the disinfection unit and lay them on a clean, sanitized towel.
PEDICURE CHAPTER-1
Place all your implements, files and supplies on a terry towel within easy reach. You will be following the same type of procedures as with a manicure, although the files you will use will be a different grit as the toenails are generally thicker than the fingernails and require a grit of about 180 to remove length. You will also need to use your toenail nippers. You may also wish to spray or wipe your feet with an antiseptic spray prior to starting your pedicure, and be sure to thoroughly wash your hands.
You may also choose to use some of the same 'optional' products with your pedicure that you used with your manicure.
Remove old polish from the nails of both feet.
File toenails straight across, rounding them slightly at the corners to conform to the shape of the toe. Use the toenail nippers to remove the underside of the corners so they will not 'dig' into your flesh. Use a 240-grit file to smooth the underside of the corners and to bevel the free edge.
Place one or both feet into the foot bath, and flip on the massage button if your machine is equipped with the massage feature. Allow your feet to soak for a full 5 minutes.
Apply cuticle remover if you wish and massage it into the cuticle.
Use your orangewood stick or the metal cuticle pusher to push back the transparent cuticle and to clean under the free edge. Never 'dig' into the flesh as breaking the seal between the nail plate and the nail bed will allow bacterial organisms to enter and an infection could occur. Do not use excessive pressure to push back the cuticles as this action could damage the matrix.
If loose cuticle skin is apparent, you may remove it by nipping with the cuticle nippers, being careful not to cut live tissue.
Repeat steps 2 - 6 on the other foot.
Scrub your feet and toenails with the nail brush being sure to cleanse the lateral nail fold and underneath the free edge.
If you have a build up of calloused skin, it can be filed with an 80-grit foot file paddle. Never attempt to use a credo blade to cut or remove calloused skin as it is much too easy to remove healthy skin along with the callous. Do not attempt to remove all of the calloused skin in one session. Depending on the depth of the callous, it can take several months or more for the healthy skin to show.
Massage both feet by applying lotion, cream or oil to the palms of your hands and then to your feet. Massage your feet, lower legs and toes, then put both feet back into the foot bath and scrub the toes to remove all traces of oil or lotion. To remove the suds or bath salts, use a spray bottle filled with warm water to rinse the toes, then dry your feet, legs and toes and between the toes with a soft towel.
Wipe each toenail with a cotton or gauze pad saturated with remover or alcohol to be sure the nail plate is free of oils.
Apply basecoat, two coats of color and a thin topcoat. Be sure to allow a minimum of 1 minute between coatings for each coat of enamel to dry.
If you are afraid of smudging the polish, you may wish to use toe separators between your toes. Leave them in place until the enamel has completely dried.
Empty the foot bath, clean it with a disinfecting solution and dry the tub. Clean all your implements with the same solution, allowing them to soak in the solution for a full 10 minutes. Remove from the solution, rinse, dry and place in a sealed container for the next use.
MANICURE
Long, manicured nails are a fashion statement.
A manicure is a cosmetic beauty treatment for the fingernails and hands performed either at home or by a nail technician. A manicure treatment can be just for the hands or nails, or can be for both. A common manicure found is the filing, shaping of the nails and the application of polish. There are also manicure services that are specialties for the hands and feet. For the hands, the soaking of a softening substance and the application of a lotion is a common specialty. Another common specialty is applying a similar treatment to the feet and toenails. This is called a pedicure. The word "manicure" derives from Latin: manus for "hand," cura for "care."
In addition to the filing, polishing, and painting of fingernails, a manicure may also include the application of artificial nail tips, acrylics or artificial nail gels. Some manicures can include the painting of pictures or designs on the nails or applying small decals or imitation jewels.
In many areas, manicurists are licensed and follow regulation. Since skin is manipulated and is sometimes trimmed, there is a certain risk of spreading infection when tools are used across many people and, therefore, sanitation is a serious issue.

WORLD LONGEST HAIR
The Long Hair Care Group recommends the following:
Finger RakingUpon waking, use the back of the hand, run fingers through hair to remove snarls and tangles.
Proper BrushingBend forward, allowing hair to fall. Using only a wooden base natural bristle brush, such as our Long Hair Brush, bring hair from the nape of the neck over the head and down to the ends. Then, stand straight again with hair falling normally and brush from the underside of the hairline down the strands to the ends. Now, brush the top layers into place with long, even strokes. After each stroke, smooth hair with hands to reduce static. Increase the number of strokes weekly, starting with five and increasing by one a week until you find a comfortable routine. If oiliness develops, reduce strokes.Brush only when dry. Hair is weakest when it is wet and brushing can easily damage it. Even when hair is dry always comb before brushing.
CombingSeparate hair into small sections. With a wide-tooth comb, such as our Long Hair Comb, carefully work from the ends in a downward direction only. Use only a wooden or tortoise shell comb – never rubber. Do not pull or yank hair.
DryingAir-dry whenever possible.
CurlingUse regular hair rollers, winding hair loosely around them. Avoid electric rollers, hot combs, and curling irons, or use these on a cool setting. Pin curls or barrel curls are the safest and fastest methods of drying hair.
Shampooing
EnvironmentBefore going out to the beach or pool, comb conditioner such as our Seaweed Pac, through the hair. This helps to protect hair from the sun, chlorine, salt water, and from the sun's heat, and serves as a deep conditioning treatment.Wear a hat, cap or scarf if you can to protect hair from over-exposure to the sun, salt or chlorinated water, wind and air pollution.

Conditioning
StylingYour hair style is a reflection of your personality and a wonderful way to express your individuality. All too often conventional styling products contain alcohol or other harsh chemicals. These ingredients are used to keep the hair in place and to give the appearance of shiny healthy hair. In the case of these mass-marketed products the look achieved is only surface deep and they tend to damage the hair. The Long Hair Care Group has developed a highly specialized line of styling products which not only makes your hair look great, they impart essential botanicals and vitamins to each strand, conditioning your hair as they hold it in place and body and give it incredible shine.
SleepingEven the way you sleep can affect your hair.
If you’re a restless sleeper, try a satin pillowcase so that the hair glides when you move in your sleep. On regular cotton cases hair can get caught and break.Putting hair up to sleep is also helpful. Hair should be put in a ponytail on top of the head. Always use rubberbands that are rapped in cloth, commonly known as "scrunchies."
